THERAPY DOG IN TRAINING

Ralphie is a Shih Tzu and our therapy dog in training at Let's Talk! He is currently enrolled in obedience classes to work towards his eventual goal of certification.

At our practice, we believe therapy should feel safe, motivating, and—even better—fun! That’s where Ralphie, our lovable therapy dog-in-training, comes in.

Research shows that spending time with animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and increase oxytocin—the brain’s “feel-good” chemical. For children in speech therapy, that calming effect can make a big difference. When kids feel more relaxed, they're more willing to engage, try new sounds, take communication risks, and participate fully in their sessions.

Ralphie helps create a warm, welcoming environment where children feel supported and accepted just as they are. His playful nature naturally encourages interaction, making him a great conversation starter and motivator for language-based tasks.

Animals like Ralphie also help kids practice skills like:

  • Attention and focus during structured tasks

  • Turn-taking and following directions through interactive games

  • Vocabulary building while describing actions, routines, and emotions

  • Empathy and social skills through nurturing and caring interactions

Therapy with Ralphie adds an extra layer of connection and joy to the learning process. For many of our young clients, he's not just a companion—he’s a communication partner.

Keep an eye out for Ralphie around the office and in appointments!Â
